trip report - 12th May 1996

Date:12th May 1996
Mountains:Meall Nan Tarmachan (1043m)
Group:Edinburgh Academy Junior Meet
Conditions:Mild, overcast
My first munro started from the NT Car Park below Ben Lawers, then across below the dam and up the side of the hill, more or less direct to the summit. The ascent became more dramatic when Chris Reid (a schoolfriend in my class) was hit from above in a gully by a large rock which required him to be taken down and taken to hospital for his head to be stapled back together. I was, naturally, a little worried by this.

Feeling tired upon reaching the summit, I realised that taking only Irn Bru to drink up a mountain is not conducive to quenching thirst - I've only ever taken water since. Cloud covered the top from time to time, although in general the views from the summit and along the ridge were good.

Following the ridge round as far as possible (it is a very pleasant ridge walk, even if not all above 3000ft it is much finer than many in Scotland which are), we then dropped off the end and down into Killin, where the coach collected us to take us back to Edinburgh (via Callander for chips, of course).
