trip report - 11th May 1997

Date:11th May 1997
Mountains:Stob Diamh (998m), Ben Cruachan (1126m)
Group:Edinburgh Academy Senior Meet
Conditions:Generally overcast, with occasional sunshine and rain.
An unremarkable day up a somewhat more remarkable mountain. The walk up to the reservoir began in general overcast but mild weather. Upon beginning the climb up to achieve the ridge at the col between Beinn a' Bhuiridh and Stob Garbh, the weather closed in and we were in wet cloud until the first summit.

This weather didn't last, however, and we were occasionally enveloped in cloud for the rest of the day, but certainly not all the time. The ridge is fine although it took us quite some time to get round it, especially with the final climb up to Ben Cruachan, dominating its neighbour Stob Diamh by quite some height.

The descent route I can't fully remember. I *think* we came down Coire Dearg and then walked back round Cruachan Reservoir, but I may be wrong, and we may have gone over Meall Cuanail. Anybody who was there like to help me out?
