trip report - 1st June 1997

Date:1st June 1997
Mountains:Carn Aosda (917m), The Cairnwell (933m), Carn a'Gheoidh (975m)
Group:Edinburgh Academy Junior Meet
Conditions:Clear, hazy sunshine all day
These are possibly some of the easiest munros to climb, given you can drive up to the Glenshee Ski Centre just below 665m! The first summit, Carn Aosda, is just a 250 metre ascent over sections of ski runs and land rover tracks. It took us just over 30 minutes to get to the summit (I'd allow a little more time than that usually!).

From there, it is more land rover tracks to the summit of the Cairnwell, where we saw sky divers carrying their kit up to the top then jumping off. Looked rather fun!

A longer but still leisurely walk then took us over the broad ridges to Carn a'Gheoidh, our final summit of the day. While some sunbathed on the cairn, others took the opportunity to potter over to Carn Bhinnein (917m - a top, not a munro) and back.

Our descent took us south over Carn Mor (876m) and Creagan Bheithe (759m) before heading directly for the road. We were collected by the coach on its way back down the Glen.
